T1 is a digital transmission link with a nominal capacity of 1.544
Mbps (roughly 150K/s). It uses two pairs of standard twisted pair
copper cabling that can handle 24 simultaneous conversations digitally
at 64 KBps. T1 Shopper quotes
a T1 costing $550-1,200/month. For those that cannot afford a full T1
connection, or, if small companies do not need the bandwidth, an FT-1
connection is an option. It's a fractional T1 connection, operating
at 64 Kbps increments (a full T1 consists of 24 64 Kbps channels).
DS1 is simply a synonym for T1. |

Another type of twisted-pair connection that's available is a T3.
This is a much faster copper connection, operating anywhere from 3
Mbps up to 45 Mbps (roughly 5.6MB/s). Prices for T3 connections vary
depending on the desired bandwidth of the company.
T1 Shopper quotes a T3 costing
$7,000-14,000/month. DS3 is simply a synonym for T3. |

Two additions made to the chart of connections on the previous page
are the T2 and T4. Little information on them has been found as of
yet. Since they are uncommon, there are probably few ISPs or other
major corporations implementing them. The only thing to note is that
a T4 operates at 274.176 Mbps. |

According to Wikipedia, there
is even an option for a T5 line. It is speculated that this type of
connection is even more rare than a T4. A T5 operates at 400.352
Mbps.
